Wabasto heater was working fine until a loud noise started that sounded like the fan was having problems. Soon thereafter bluish smoke came out the exhaust port. The status light showed a steady green, I pushed the shutoff and it took awhile for it to completely shut down. Any help would be much appreciated.

Bluish smoke is usually a sign of incomplete combustion. Your symptoms sound different from one another. The fan is a blower that shoots air over a heat exchanger that is heated by the burning fuel. You could have a dirty glow plug or bad fuel and that would cause the bluish smoke. However, you will normally get a flashing light that will indicate the problem by the number of flashes. Did you try a restart?

I had a problem with my Webasto heater recently that apparently was related to low level of fuel in the tank. The fuel pickup for the webasto is above the bottom of the tank. We had about 30% fuel left and noticed that when we tried to turn the Webasto on, it went through its usual initial startup and then the inside cabin fan began to make a lot of noise which then subsided. The flashing light on the controller is your key to trouble shooting. After the five consecutive flashes, there will be a variable number of slow flashes, which will be followed by another five consecutive flashes and so forth. Count the slow flashes (twice at least to make sure you are chasing the right problem). When we added more fuel to the tank, we were able to use the Webasto again but initially during the priming we noticed the misty aerosolized fuel before the heater would ignite reliably. Your problem may be related to incomplete combustion as noted above. Pulling fuses to reset the memory may be needed depending upon how many times you have tried to restart it. There is a great post on Tugnuts regarding Webasto heater troubleshooting that may be helpful in figuring this out ( I tried to copy the link so hopefully this will work (viewtopic.php?f=2&t=10341&p=71448&hilit=Flashing+red+LED+on+my+Webasto+controller#p71308) but if it doesn't the discussion was started by Baz on January 1, 2018.
