Weight of R-21EC + Trailer

My research into using my Volvo XC70 to tow a fully loaded R-21EC which evidenced by recent info here could be as much as around 3900 lbs leaves me quite/very disappointed.

I firmly believe the EU and USA versions of this car are the same from a structural consideration. I've been to the Göteburg Volvo factory in 2003 where these cars are built and EU & USA versions are built on the same production line (which I know is no guarantee they are built identically). I only wished I had asked the appropriate questions about towing when I was there having the real experts on hand to chat with without Volvo management breathing down our backs.

No matter, if I ever do trail an R-21EC with my Volvo it would be only to get the boat out of or to the the local water hole from my home which would be no more than a 2 mile run. The R-21EC appeals to me as it's small enough to keep at my house without annoying my neighbors as well as saving on Marina moorage and dry dock activities.

Before attempting this I would get advice from my Ins. Co. to get their 'blessing'.

I do appreciate all the time & effort others have given contributing to my OP enquiry. Thank you. 🙂

I towed a J80 over hill and dale with a Toyota 4Runner. It was a no problem situation, but, the towing capacity and weight towed were similar to Volvo equation discussed there.

Towed my R21EC with my Toyota LandCruiser; 6500 lb towing capacity, all wheel drive. Towed both the galvanized trailer and an aluminum FloatOn Trailer. Couldn't tell any difference between the trailers, except gas mileage, the aluminum trailer resulted in 10% better mileage. Big difference using the LandCruiser vs the 4Runner. Could hardly tell the boat was back there. Heavier tow vehicle relative to towed weight makes a difference.
