What are these?

I was told by Pocket Yachts during 2 day New Owner orientation -and demo'd: they are for the 2 steel tubes used for the cockpit sunshade extension NOT designed as either rod holders or grill mounts.

Yes, this is what they are. Angled weirdly. We bought a used Cutwater 30CB at Edgewater Yacht Sales in Perdido Key/Pensacola. It came with the porous sunshade which was weathered and dirty and the two steel rods to hold it aft. The rods angle outside the beam of the boat. We asked if we could give them back to the dealer whose employee said (paraphrasing) Okay. I'll add them to pile of others I have.

We didn't see how we could be underway with the shade attached to the zipper, and then clipped at the corners to these poles which are slid in the holes but not attached. With as little storage as there is already, we didn't need these in the way every time we went cruising. We now are adding a permanent Sunbrella Seamark bimini with two bows that will extend from the zipper back to each corner, shading the aft seat.

Whatever! But if you need to replace them or order new rubber covers I think you will find them listed under flush mounted rod holders! Seems to be a little different opinions from west coast to east cost on the use but if you call fluid motions parts department and request there installed rod holders they will know what your talking about. If someone gave me a dog and ponies story I would seriously consider asking for my money back. Just Bob, no hard feelings just stuck in the house waiting for the snow to stop!

Well, we may not need to contact the factory to resolve the mystery. The description of my boat includes: Rod holders (2)...https://www.cutwaterboats.com/Userfiles ... et-web.pdf. I checked Ranger R31 and they do indeed have Rod Holders. If anyone has a picture of 'Rod Holders' other than the ones we've posted, that could solve it right there. Mine are identical to all the pictures posted on CW and RTs aft starboard and port, just under the rails in the corners. The CW factory bimini attaches with Hardware fittings to the railing.

They were rod holders on our 2015 R25SC and on occasion I used them as such with no adverse consequences. I have not checked to see if the rail is in the way on our R29 but I don't think it will interfere with there function.

"The CW factory bimini attaches with Hardware fittings to the railing."

They are used for the removable poles that hold the corners of the sun shade. That is not the same product as the bimini also sold by Cutwater.

Sharon, yes they can and are used for a variety of things including shade for the cockpit area. My point was when you need to replace the rubber caps, which we all have to after a few years of exposure to the elements! You will find them listed as (Flush mount Rod Holders). My point was to help someone looking it up on the web or Amazon for repair, not what it is or is not used for on your boat.
We all call things by different names which can be confusing when researching for repair. I ment no disrespect to you and hope your enjoying better weather than I am in about a foot of snow! Being a Georgia boy myself (Camden county) area, I try never miss a opportunity to argue with a fellow southern! Bubba Bob

Note: If you look at the specification PDF under boat features for your model you will see that your boat came from the factory with Two rod holders!

Apologies. I didn't see that the original post was looking for parts.
