I posted a couple of quick shots in my album of two "donks" that are mounted on the side of my R-21's wheelhouse. I'm not a fisherman - but I think that they're outrigger mounts. Can anyone confirm?

Them ain't down rigger mounts-I have no idea! 🙁

Well - not "downrigger" mounts but "outrigger" mounts?

Well - not "downrigger" mounts but "outrigger" mounts? Even more puzzling to me is the fact that they tilt forward rather than aft. They do have a "pin" across the bottom like a rod holder, but that doesn't make sense either. Once I figure out that they don't have any magical purpose I'll remove them. For the record, they were there when the prior owner of 22 years bought the boat - and he never knew what they were for either.

Something to aid with a sailing setup maybe ? Or maybe to do with supporting a cockpit canopy. I'm sure RT could offer some explanation for them.... try asking RT to see if there are any old-timers lurking about in their factory corners.... 😉

Not sure of their location, but could they be tie off points for straps when trailering?

I'm guessing they were used for mounting outrigger poles. The outriggers could have been used for either fishing, to get more separation between trolled lines, or for roll stabilizers, aka flopper stoppers. I haven't seen any mounts exactly like those in your pictures, but I can't think of any other purpose.

Used to tie the fenders perhaps? Who knows... could also be to attack strapping for a cockpit bimini?

They're attached with four 1/4" machine bolts and backed on the interior with a large 3/4" thick plywood panel. Obviously, they were designed to take a fairly heavy load. I don't think that they were installed by Ranger - although the teak base would suggest a professional installation.

Hello,

I did confirm that these are not installed by Ranger. Wish I could be of more help!
