My boat has been in the water about 2 weeks now in RI. It is the smallest boat in the marina, sail and power boats up to around 40 feet on the same dock. Everyone stops and comments on the look of the boat. I've given a few tours and people are just amazed. One guy captains a real tug boat and he couldn't get over what this boat has for equipment. "Thrusters are standard equipment, you got to be kidding"
Guess its something I'll have to get used to.

It gets worse! I have considered making up a sheet of "Frequently asked Questions" to hand out.

Be sure to encapsulate that FAQ in plastic and stick it on the inside of one of the dockside windows... and add that inside tours by appointment... the Ranger Tug's home website... and list Jeff's Andrew's and Kenny's phone numbers for all the g(l)ory details...

Wait 'til they see how easy it is for you to get out and cruise. And all the places you can go and they can't. As we've heard many times, "it's a proper boat" which appeals to sailors, yachters, and tug captains alike.

Cheers!

For 10 days last summer we kept count:
2 people had a tug on order and spent time talking with us
8 Jeff Messners cards were handed out
13 people asked to came aboard
29 more were invited by me to have a look( so they would leave and let us eat)
156 groups of people pointed at us

All in one week-Sequim to Seattle to Friday Harbor then back to Sequim.

We have had our 25SC for a short period and I now believe the worst word in the dictionary is "cute". Every time one of my wife's friends comment the word "cute" is in their vocabulary. I calmly correct them and state that we say "character".

You just had to say the C*** word. 🙁 😉

I much prefer "jaunty" over "cute". After 5 years of pressing, I must have at least 12 converts.

Dave
"Lobo"

I have a friend who used to own a C-Dory, as I did I a few years back. In response to the "It's so cute" comments, he named his boat "Knot Cute".

We once pulled into a parking lot on our way to Yellowstone Lake with our CD22 cruiser, and a ~6 year old kid nearby screwed up his face and said "That's a funny boat!" It was not an approval - his family had a ski boat.

People are just drawn to something different that they don't expect to see.
Everyone likes Tug Boats and then they see a Ranger Tug and they are AWED that that little boat can
do all that it does and have all of the features and electronics and be so CUTE
Yes I said the "C" word but then I am surrounded by CUTE ----->
My Bride is CUTE
My Puppy is CUTE
All of my Granddaughters are CUTE
My Great Granddaughter is CUTE
My Grandson and Great Grandson are NOT CUTE

So my boat had to be CUTE

Fellows don't fight it --- just pretend the admiration and interest that is coming your way is really meant for you, you did purchase the Ranger Tug didn't you [ in most cases with the Admirals permission]

Happy Cruising to All of You

I pulled into the Florida welcome area off I-95 to set up the boat for launching since it was only 20 minutes from the ramp. It took me three times longer than usual because of all the questions. I would say that among the questions there were about 20 cutes.

Today we had a garage sale, before we brought our R27 home from winter storage. During the course of the garage sale we had no less then a dozen folks ask where our red boat was, what kind was it, where it is built, etc, etc, etc. So even when the boat is not where people recognize it should be they're still curious. We have several coming back once we bring the boat home next week. This must be similar to the attention famous people get, except in our cases it's our boat!

When I hear the word "cute" used to describe our boat, I will generally say, "I find it to be a very MANLY boat."

The Blonde can then add, "Manly, yes, but I like it, too."

😎

Yeah, well last summer I was at anchor in Pender Harbor when a fellow came by in RIB tender about half the length of my R-27. He stopped, looked my way, and then said “Sorry, I thought you were someone else. He has a LITTLE boat like yours!” Where is a R-31 when you need one?

I wouldn't be surprised if you misunderstood him... "little" and "gorgeous" sound a lot alike. 😉

I tell those that are looking at our boat that if they say it is cute, they have to pay me $5.00 and there are no discounts for multiple "cutes".

I have almost paid for boat and have kept the diesel tank full just on it' s "Cute" factor......🙂

Y'oughta try travelling to and doing 6 or 8 boat shows a year . The "cute" can get under your skin .
At which point it becomes sub"cute"aneous .
Marc

"Cute" is why we named our boat "Tugnacious". When we chartered one we got tired of the "it's soooo cuuuute". When we bought one, we went with pugnacious/tenacious = Tugnacious which frankly, in rough conditions, it is. Tough boat when green water comes over the bow. Grrrrrrr.

Still, you have to admit that the attention is nice from some.

Jeff
