Can anyone tell me the realistic range of an R21EC? If i wanted to cruise across the chesapeake all day or across the pamlico sound to the outer banks is that possible? I don't own one yet but these types of trips would be on my long list of trips to make. Thanks for the replies!

We did a round trip on our 2013 R21 EC from Lake Park to Bayside in Miami Florida around 170 nautical miles on around 15 gals. Less than a tank.

The range of my 2008 21ec really varies depending on speed and conditions. For example, I brought it down the Delaware River and Northern Chesapeake on a calm day when the engine was breaking in (less than 50 hours) running at 8 knots which was maximum speed less about 400 rpm's (Yanmar recommends keeping the rpms high during break in), and I burned about 1.43 gallons/hour. After break in, I cruised at 6-7 knots and averaged about .67 gallons/hour. I've been figuring .75 gallons/hour for an average, and with 18 gallons in the tank (maybe 15 usable), that's 20 hours motoring on a tank. At 6 knots, that gives a usable range of about 120 nautical miles.

Thanks. I think that would cover everything I plan on doing with the boat. Plus I'm sure there are marina's along the way where I could top off the tank if need be.

Jimackert - I see you are from Carmel, IN. That's where I'm from and where I grew up, although I've moved to NC with my job. My parents still live in Carmel too and I come home frequently. Where do you use your tug in central Indiana? Geist? Monroe? This may sound odd, but could I come see your R21EC next time I'm in town? I've only seen the boat at a dealership in Annapolis one time and never actually been on one in water. I wouldnt ask you to take me out on it but I would really like to see another one in person and talk with an owner about them. Let me know if you are interested and we can find a way to talk off of the forum.

Hi,
Not much boating around here in the Mid West! I've been keeping the R21ec in indoor rack storage on the Chesapeake Bay. It's about a 10 hour drive, and the marina has it in the water waiting for when I arrive. This spring I'm having it shipped to Fort Pierce, Florida (indoor rack storage again for hurricane season, at Vero Beach for the winters). I'm hoping to live aboard for the winters at Vero Beach and escape the cold. If you are near Florida when I'm down there I'd be happy to take you for a spin.

nsf1819 - I looked on The World of Ranger Tugs https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=...86.171875&t=h&z=2&iwloc=00048f234a1a28faa7bde and I see there is a R21-EC owner that lives in Washington, NC, that I believe is close to you. The owner gives their phone number and email address. You might want to contact the owner to see if they would give you a spin. The R21-EC would be a perfect boat for cruising North Carolina and the ICW. North Carolina has some beautiful rivers.

I was looking at Boat Trader the other day, and some of the R-25 Classics are priced low enough to almost be a viable alternative to a new R-21. They have a realistic crusing range of 400 to 500 miles.

Thanks RProffer. I will definitely look them up this spring!
