What oil do you use on your Volvo Penta?

Ugh, after todays indecisive action at Walmart, although I decided to go with Delo, I am now trying to decide on which one (400 SDE, 400 XLE synblend, or 400 XSP full synthetic).

The synthetic blend is the cheapest. 5 gallons for $88.

I am not where I have access right now, but I believe my Next Gen manual says not to use synthetic oil in the generator at least for the first 5 years.
Good to know because I was just gonna buy like 7 gallons.

I believe the SDE is the one you want!

For Next Gen Generator:
Per Next Gen Manual for the UCM 3.5 kW generator with the Kubota diesel engine:
Oil capacity 1.3 L or approx. 1 quart
Do not use synthetic oil until at least 500 hours of engine break in under good load is complete
Oil weight: Temps above 68 degrees F or 20 degrees C - SAE 30
Temps between 41 F and 67 F or 5 C and 20 C - SAE 20
Temps below 41 degrees F or 5 degrees C - SAE 10W or 10W-30

Of course that’s the one I need, it’s the most expensive one!
Thanks though Dbsea!

Naturally! I was at my boat today (forgot to measure the oil pipe but it seems like someone else answered that for you), and confirmed the SDE, I’ve got a 2.5gal jug in my spare fluids storage area.

Thanks Dbsea, I found the SDE 2.5 gallons at a Walmart in the region for $41.
5/8 is what the D4 takes, so I’m thinking it will be the same. I will find out tomorrow when I get to the boat.

I am about to change my oil on my D6 435 and want to use Volvo oil, but the wait time for delivery is significant. Shell Rottella T4 looks comparable and is available immediately. Obviously if warranty is still a consideration, you have to stick with Volvo, but if it isn’t what are you guys using? Are there differences between marine and commercial truck oil?
The most significant change customers can expect from this shift is replacing the popular Delo® 400 SDE 15W-40 engine oil. The new product, the Delo® 400 XLE SB 15W-40, will be offered at the same price and is compatible with all engines that used the previous conventional Delo® engine oil.Feb 21, 2024...
This new oil is available at O'Reilly Auto Parts

T4. I change every 100 hours, also use it in my RAM 2500 Cummins. Used it in my Mainship 30 with the Yanmar 6LPA 315. Onan/Cummins Generator, use T4 as well. Never let me down. I can get it at Home Depot for $16/gallon. I go thru a lot of it, so I buy it in the 2.5 gallon jugs, I believe at $43/jug last time I got it at Home Depot.

Valvoline Premium Blue 15w40 for me, it’s VDS 4.5, and Cummins certified. Also use the Valvoline DEX/MERC transmission fluid.

The local Volvo authorized shop changed my oil yesterday. Delo 400 15W-40.

This is what was on my boat when it was new, I'm going to stick with it. I will use only the Volvo filters though. They are more expensive but are HIGHLY recommended by a few of my trusted sources..
