I just love that antique brass porthole in the head of my R27. It adds just the right "saltiness" to the boat. It sure looks like an authentic antique, even showing the aging of very old brass. Question for the factory, where do you get those? Do you have a whole stash of authentic antique portholes you got off an old ship at one time? Or are they actually new but just conditioned to look old?

I can assure you they are bright brass from the factory. It took ours about three years to get the antique look! The salty side gets there faster. The newer boats use stainless.

Not sure of the supplier for the port holes for Ranger/Cutwarer boats, but you can buy from most marine suppliers, a large selection on Amazon and other on line supplier. Bob

Dang, I was hoping there would be a cool story behind those bronze portlights, like some old WW2 ship that was dismantled and FM snagged all the portlights or some such thing.

My boat's going on 4 years old, so I suppose that's enough time for that bronze to take on that weathered, antique look.

When I acquired my 2012 back in 2016, I thought that the port hole would look really nice all shined up.

After messing with it using several possible remedies. I changed my mind and decided the antique look was really great!

Now this looks nice:

Just sayin’

I remember the deck hands on the ship I was on hated to have to polish the bright work!
And if not kept up it doesn't take long for it to take on the green color in the salt water environment!

To each his own. In my mind, the designers at Ranger chose those bronze portlights for a reason. They could have saved money and assured low maintenance and long term shiney-ness by going stainless, but I assume they were going with the "salty" look, right down to the funky little anchor on a chain to hold it open.

This might be a good virus project.

After a long career as a brass polisher for the US Government the green looking/antique has become my favorite! Have better things to do with my time ( drinking beer/fishing ).

Great post Bob. I hear you but I must confess I polish the brass porthole on the head side. I’ve also been known to polish the copper pipes on my home heating system. I guess I can’t get the USCG training out of my head.
