After being totally frustrated this morning trying to order online from West Marine (which I've used for years) I'm just curious where you think the best online store is, not necessarily on prices but also on service, returns, catalogs, etc. The West Marine person I finally talked to this morning about my frustration with their site admitted that their site was currently a mess which is amazing to me. They've been pretty good in the past but they've maybe lost their online customer friendliness. For those of us who are not physically near a marine store online shopping is a necessity.

I have had pretty good luck with in-store and online purchases.
The WM warehouse for us, living here in Utah, is in California.
There maybe a difference in other parts of the counrty with warehouse locations.
It can be frustrating when you need soemthing and it seems to take forever to get it in your hands.

Check out Fisheries Supply. Their only retail store is here in Seattle, but they have an extensive catalog and recently redesigned web site. The Ranger factory sources a lot of their parts and gear from them. We go there more often than WM, and have always been happy with their service.

You can also request a catalog for those evenings when you just want to flip through some real pages.

Cheers

I still like WM. Have bought many things there in person and on-line. Many websites have problems, it's sometimes not their fault, our computers do not always cooperate! (Mine never does what I I want it to do, but unfailingly always does what I tell it to do) You can't beat their return policy, I had a marine AC unit for over a year that I finally decided not to install (the holes in the hull did me in), took it back in pieces, no box etc and got a full refund, no questions asked.
