Prospective R29 owner here,

Where would I store my dinghy gas container and/or Gerry can?

Thanks,
Bob

I don't know if all the boats have one, but ours has a storage compartment on the swim step.

The storage box on the swim platform will fit a 3 gallon Quicksilver outboard fuel tank in it. I also keep a bucket, boat soap, mop head, and deck brushes in it too. The R29 may have a bigger box, then the C26

How about storing a gerry can? Say, if you're in the Bahamas and want to keep extra fuel onboard.

I have seen the boats going to Alaska strap them on the roof.

Our new R29s has a 2 gallon can stored in the propane locker on the swim step. Came that way and it works well for me.

To clarify, all three boats in our flotilla to Alaska stored EMPTY 5-gallon diesel jugs atop our roofs. We would keep them in the cockpit when full, as we would not want the weight riding that high on the boat in rough seas.

Typically, when we filled our diesel tanks along with the jugs, we would refill the tank from the jugs as soon as we consumed enough fuel to empty the jugs. With as much distance as we covered in Alaska (averaging 40 nautical miles/day) this meant that the inconvenience of the jugs occupying space in the cockpit area was a very temporary inconenience. Often we even "re-fueled" while underway, and once the jugs were empty they would be towed up top, out of the way.

On our R27, we have the standard swimstep locker where we stow our propane, and a small 2.5 gallon gas jug fits in there as well. I would certainly not recommend stowing filled gas jugs up high on your boat.

Thanks for the clarification Mark! Makes sense!
