We are currrenly at Port Madison in our R31 SE and discovered that the yellow light for our stern thuster was blinkinng and we could hear that it was just making a sort'a weak noise. The light for the bow thruster was solid yellow and it worked OO.

Based on this, I assume that the fuse for the starn thruster needs to be replaced.

The "R31 Fuse Block Layouts" page shows a picture of the "Thruster Battery" with a box with 6 fuses. on the left hand side they are labeled top to bottom as

Bilge Alarm
CO Monitor (#1)
CO Monitor (#2)

and on the right hande side

Bilge Pump (#1)
Bilge Pump (#2)
Volt Meter (Battery #3)

So this prompts my question WHERE Is the stern thruster fuse located?

Thanks in advance,

I am not familiar with the fuse locations on the R-31. However they are usually located by the battery switches and they are large and would not be in a fuse block. They should have a large plastic cover over them and labeled each for bow and stern. Here is a link for the troubleshooting guide. Quite frankly I have not seen a blinking light as a troubleshooting issue. Usually the lights are either on or off. https://www.imtra.com/Portals/0/docs/SP_Troubleshooting_Guide_pre-IPC_4-wire.pdf

I don't have the same boat as you but I don't think you'll find a fuse for a thruster in a fuse block / PDP. My thrusters use ANL type fuses which are quite large compared to the auto blade fuses and are rated at 150 amps. Look for individual fuse mountings about the size of a candy bar with large gauge wire leading to and from them. Mine are directly below the red thruster service switch. You can see both my bow and stern thruster fuses in the picture below to the left of the House PDP. HTH, Gary

Thanks for that info and photo.
I think that Ranger Tugs replaced the two 150 amp ANL fuses with one 300 amp fuse. That is what we have in our 2019 R31 SE.

I won’t be on my boat for a couple of weeks, or I would double check. But I’m pretty sure that, on my 2019 R31s, I have separate 250 amp ANL fuses on the bow and stern thrusters and a single 300 amp ANL fuse after the inverter. And as Knotflying said of his experience, I too have never had any blinking lights of any kind.

Interesting.

Where exactly are the 2 fuses located?

thanks

Mine are below the three fuse boxes under the aft sink in the cockpit. Mounted on a “wall” at right angles to the battery switches. If they are there on yours, they are hard to miss.

Andrew Custis of Ranger Tugs walked me through the steps to solve my problem; there was nothing wrong with my Stern Thruster, I just had to turn on ALL the red switches in the compartment under the cockpit sink! (my bad, I had only turned on the top 3 switches).

And my boat does have two 250 amp fuses installed in that compartment.
