White Tape Around Fuel Tank

Good Afternoon:

I had the two fuel shut-off valves moved to make them more accessible. There is some white tape that covers the edge of the fuel tank and extends over the gap between the tank and the plywood deck. I would like to remove the tape as it is dirty and has some diesel residue on it. Can I assume that the tape is there simply to cover the gap?

Yes, and sometimes they'll put tape help hold things in place as they do the install.
