Why I like Weaver davits! Two Videos

I wanted to share why I like my Weaver Davits system. I will start by making a few points on why I prefer them over storing my dinghy up on top of my R-29.

1. Very easy access for quick use. Really great if you have a dog that needs to go ashore!
2. In case of an emergency I can have the dinghy ready to go in seconds.
3. If there was an emergency and I was in heavy seas, I would not want to be trying to get my dinghy off the top of the boat while it is broaching and excitement was high.

Now here are the draw backs.

1. People say that it blocks your view off the stern. While this is slightly true, I still feel I have very good visibility looking aft.
2. Some people have said that the dinghy will catch the wind and effect your boats performance. I have been out in gale winds and seas and this has not been a issue. In fact the dinghy has remained very stable. I do have a second support stay that I use when things kick up.

Perfect !!!! Great Videos. Now all you need is a Torqeedo 1003.
 
Those Torqeedo 1003's are great! The only problem for us is, my dog likes to hang over the bow and go really fast. My 8hrs outboard gets us up on plane and going 20mph. That's what he likes! Yes, I like it too.
I can't disappoint Winslow.

Thought I would bring this back up for the Dinghy and davit subject on the R-25.
Truly one of the slickest setups I have ever had!

You would not be disappointed. I truly pull anchor several times all through the weekend to go pick up guest back at the marina and I have the dinghy put away in less then a minute. I am so in love with this set up!
I like the safety aspect of it also. If in a emergency and I need my dinghy, it's there!

Wolf Pack uses the same davit system as Stuart has. Very slick, as Stuart's demo shows. We are very happy with that system.

Great demo!
However, your feet and back are obviously in better shape than mine.
I'd be limping for the rest of the day if I used bare feet to kick the release levers like that; and if I bent over to mount the o/b like that I'd be done for the rest of the week! 🙂
 
Weaver makes a swing Bracket that keeps the motor mounted and also serves as one of the stanchions to support the dingy while upright. I believe it is in the $950.00 range, but if it will save your back, what the heck. And for another 50 bucks you can buy some sneakers to kick those $1,000 davits!
 
I am sure someday I will be looking into a easier way to deal with putting the motor on the dinghy transom. Or maybe by the time I am ready for that I will have a outboard that is really light.
As far as kicking the davits, I have the setup tuned perfect so a with little tap with the heal of the foot, the little upward pressure from the dinghy just pops it out. It sounds worse then it is.
As of now I am almost 50 years old and feel like I am in my twenties. In the meantime I plan on continuing my active lifestyle and clean living as long as I can.
One of my best friends is 93 and still takes care of his 4 acres of property and flies his airplane all around the country. The guy is truly sharp as a whip! His wife is twenty years younger and he runs circles around her. He is my inspiration! 😀

I'd really like to go with that setup for our C28, but a couple of questions if I may.

Looking at the video, and the relationship between the inflatable tubes, the swim platform rails, the brackets, and the swim platform, it looks as though you had to use the extended snap davits, probably the 4" ones.
Is that correct, and if so where did you buy them?
Defender only show the standard kit online and I wasn't able to find an extended kit on their site.

On the new 2012 option list for Cutwaters is Inflatable RIB 260 CSM/Hypalon including Weaver Davits, stand offs and winch price $4250. This would likely be offered on the Tugs also since it is on the Cutwater.

I saw that, but we already own an Avon inflatable. I wonder what make the RIB is?
