Why is my depth finder working intermittently? R27 le 2020

I have the same issue on both my Rangers.

If you have an in-hull transducer start by checking the fluid in the transducer case. Over time they all will need to have fluid added and it's not unusual to have a slow leak.

Thanks, I’ll do that.

Another possibility is the gain setting on your Sonar. On our R27 Classic it must be set to Auto (top center of sonar screen on GPS 7212) to work consistently.

I understand that antifreeze is the fluid to put in the transducer. Does it matter what type?

I refilled mine with the fresh water system antifreeze for winterizing the boat and it is working fine. But I would guess any liquid that doesn't freeze would work, because, if I remember correctly, the manual says mineral oil works too. I think the important thing is that it's full with no air gaps.

I just went through this. Turns out the Black sealant that they use to glue this to the hull failed, and the red antifreeze leaked out. You need to pull it up and re apply the silicone. Refill with RV antifreeze, and you are good to go. Make sure it goes back in the same spot, and the right orientation.

Mine works fine until I’m in waters over 600 ft deep. Then it will occasionally start blinking at the last measured depth. Yesterday it was blinking at 1,236 ft deep. Comes back to normal once I’m in shallower water.

Got the sonar working in both my Tugs. They both needed to be refilled with RV antifreeze. The 21 was easy. The 31 was a PITA.
