wi-fi and how to get it

Trinity,
Be careful with Verizon. I signed up for internet access with my cell phone for $30 and then connected it to my laptop. When the Verizon bill came in, there was another $30 charge on it for connecting the laptop to the cell phone. What a rip-off.

Don't know about canada.

Thanks for the heads up about connecting to the laptop. So far no extra charge, but will watch our bill!

Canada is considered international roaming.... We figure from our last trip international roaming when using cell phone technology for data transmission and receiving costs right around $30.00 per hour...... Got a bill to prove it!

There are a ton of options out there now. Your iphone s4 can now be used as a hotspot, but you have to pay a monthly fee for that as well as the use of data. Sprint seems to have the best deal on data. What no one mentioned is that on the public wifi you have no security so be careful if you are in your bank accounts etc. I usually swithch over to my mifi when i want to do secure things and then the public wifi for browsing and such

unlimited download over the at&t 3g network to our iPad is $30/mo. We just returned from our first RV trip using the iPad instead of the laptop and are very pleased.
My original $25 plan for our IPad is limited to 2 GB. I know because I came very close to it one month and got a notification from AT&T. The new plan is $30 for 3 GB according to the web site. Are you grandfathered in to an unlimited plan? I was unable to find a new unlimited plan. I would be interested if it is available. I love the iPad, it allows me to leave my laptop many times. Unfortunately I still need to carry the laptop on extended trips for bookkeeping and graphic design. Maybe the next generation of devices will fix that.

Unfortunately there is no longer any such thing as "Unlimited" data with AT&T, even for those of us that were grandfathered in with an Unlimited Data plan. AT&T has been making the news lately for throttling Unlimited plan users down to below dial-up after they have hit somewhere around 2.2-2.5GB for the month. I myself experienced this last week, when I hit 2.4GB - my iPhone 4S speeds are now brutally slow, and will stay that way until my new cycle begins in 6 days.
