Those of you in the Pac NW, or who watch Pac NW weather, know how windy and wet things have been the past week. We have some record rainfall (and in Oregon, that's saying something). It has made for an uneven week of cruises for the Portland Christmas ships. One night was cancelled due to flood stage waters and high winds. The next night the fleet went out and negotiated its way safely (but with white knuckles) through the debris-filled Willamette river -- everything from chunks of trees and branches, to full trees with root balls, to parts of broken off docks, and more). The debris had mostly headed out to sea by the next night, but the water level was still high, and the turbulence under and around the Portland bridges had us feeling like we were crossing the Columbia bar. All in all, we've had consistently safe outings, but with some nights offering us more than the usual challenges of boating in darkness in winter. I've gained confidence in my abilities in those conditions, but more than that, I've learned that the Ranger Tug 27 is intrepid!
Here are some photos . . . of the more serene rather than dramatic moments. The first is of our boat and another one passing the Portland Spirit dinner cruise ship (ours is to the far right of the ship, in green and red). The second photo is a more close up shot of our boat with the reflection of the display on the water. After than is Ody Sea, fellow Ranger Tugger Mike Braet's boat (bells and wreath display). The final picture isn't a Ranger Tug, but it is a great display - a perennial favorite in Portland (Blue Momma Whale and Baby). Hope you enjoy!
One more week of Christmas Shipping to go. It is a great new holiday tradition for me.
