Will champagne damage gelcoat?

We are planning a family gathering for Saturday to officially name our boat (put the lettering on last night) and plan on a champagne toast. No plans to break a bottle over the bow, but if instead we poured some champagne over the bow, would it damage the finish??? Grandkids are going to have sparkling cider, which would be sticky, but possibly not damaging. Any experience or suggestions out there? We obviously would hose things off soon after. Thanks all! thanks, everyone! We had a terrific weekend officially naming the Hoku Kai, champagne toasts and lots of family fun. The name is Hawaiian, hoku means star and Kai means sea. Hope more of you make it down to south sound, we have some beautiful places to boat here. We met Bruce and Vicky from Moondance at Swantown this weekend. Boston Harbor does a very fun Sunday brunch on the deck, Hope Island State Park is always inviting to visit, Longbranch and Jarrels Cove are easy trips for us, along with Gig Harbor and other stops. We have had the boat for a month and so far managed to spend 15 days on her, loving our tug! Lois Cheney

Vicki and I got back to Seattle this afternoon. We look forward to our next trip to the South Sound. Beautiful, and we hardly saw another boat underway. What a treat.
