Has anyone had experience, good or bad, with Garmin wireless wind instruments showing wind data including speed along with apparent and true wind direction?

Tom

Did a search to see any reference items earlier, and came across this thread, so thought I'd add our setup we recently installed. As sailors, wanted wind data, so went with the Garmin wireless wand and wind display on the command bridge. Also an opportunity to raise/update the anchor/steaming light with LED.

Side note. Now that we're trying to figure out how to wire a cell booster down from the bridge, should point out that this installation was relatively straightforward as the end of the NMEA 2K bus terminates with the AP controller right under this spot. Easy to add another T to the mix, adjust things a bit to still fit, and done. Wind data is available on the main chartplotter as a data bar option as well as this screen.

I like the idea of wind direction and speed on the chart plotter. presently use a Davis Vantage wireless system, I move that unit from the helm to the dining table and it is battery operated it also gives me rain rate and accumulation, average wind speed for the last two minutes, and last ten minutes. The chart plotter does take a lot more battery when at anchor. But wind instruments do give you bragging rights when that 60 mph squall roared through at night. Wind instruments also let you keep in touch with the changing conditions outside of the cabin as your motoring along isolated from the elements.

FYI, No affiliation other than being an early adopter as part of their kick-starter campaigns, but have been impressed with this product/solution. I know there is another thread about devices like this (maybe that's on their forum), but thought it would be worth sharing. https://weatherflow.com/tempest-weather-system/

Alice J, Which Davis Vantage system do you have?

Alice J, I was wondering the same thing.

Sorry, I forgot the model number, it is a Vantage Vue 6250, the basic unit. I bolt outside the receiver to a properly sized aluminum pipe about four feet long to minimize turbulence, which is then attached with hose clamps on the solar panel rack.
