I've got a 2019 R29 CB with the standard 160w solar panel. I do a lot of anchoring out and, as we all know, the sun doesn't always shine. I've been seeing a lot of boats -- admittedly mostly sailing vessels -- with wind generators. They are NOT always the buzzy loud noisemakers every seems to know. Technology has changed considerably and there are quiet, efficient alternatives out there.

What I'd like to know is whether anyone has added a wind turbine to their Ranger Tug. What brand/model did you buy? Where did you mount it? How did you connect it to the batteries? (I don't need to connect to all batteries; I'm mostly concerned with keeping the four house batteries charged.) What can you tell me? Recommend?

If you've never done this and don't want to, please don't fill this discussion with opinions on why you wouldn't. I'm beyond that. I just want to hear from folks who have either researched this extensively or have done it. I need to learn from people who can provide useful information.

Thanks!

Sounds like a great addition! I’ve just ordered a new R27 and upgraded both solar and batteries to hopefully avoid this very problem but I will either add more solar or a wind generator if I have deficient energy production. I also ordered twin engines hoping that while underway the two alternators will replenish a little faster than one. TBD, let us know what you decided with your research or if you installed what you went with and how you like it. Seems like there is always a little breeze we could be benefiting from as long as the unit is quiet. Would also be nice to easily access it and shut it down or put it away when desired.
