I have applied with a soft bristled brush (do not use the garden hose attachment) Windex Outdoor Window & Surface Cleaner on the fiberglass with very good results. It really cleans and does not appear to harm the surface or remove the wax on the surface. The product uses a sheeting action to get surfaces clean without streaks.

After owning white boats for the past 33 years, my wife finally convinced me to buy a boat with a dark hull. Solitude is the Clarinet Red which is a great color. The draw back is with any dark color car or boat, it is tough to keep them looking good. After trying numerous cleaners and waxes, today I tried another. This time I used a product called "Liquid Glass". This product put a clear finish on what ever surface you apply it to. The results were amazing. Finally, a wax that is going to look good!

You can find it at Checker Auto or order on line. (It was cheaper at Checker Auto)

Wonder if it would work for slightly oxidized white?

The liquid glass product line is awesome!

There is a precleaner that is supposed to removed the oxidation layer(s). I've had good results on old cars with both the wax and precleaner, but I have not tried it on a white boat. Not sure how it will work on gelcoat.

It works great on Gelcoat. If you go to their website, they suggest its use on Gelcoat. I put the second coat on today. It is amazing the shine you get!

Thanks for the tip! Our 21-EC "Kamalani" is Hero Red, and she lives in a slip. We seem to make a habit of hanging upside down with chamois in an effort to keep her hull spotless. Can't wait to give the Windex product a try. Alex.

It is a common known fact that with the color red oxidizes faster than most other colors. The main culprit is sunlight. Living in Florida, the red visors over the windows and windshield on Little Toot take a beating. They were turning a lighter red, had varying off color splotches, and were starting to oxidize. After washing the boat with Windex Outdoor I applied 303 Aerospace Protectant (SPF 40) to the visors. 303 penetrated and restored the year old red gel coat so that it looked like the day the boat was delivered to me. Lastly, 303 is very quick and easy to apply. Check out the below web site and check out what 303 will do for your boat by clicking on the various topics.

PS: I applied 303 to the entire bottom prop and rudder of Little Toot and the boat is faster at all power settings!

Henry - thanks for the heads-up on 303. We had noticed the very same condition occuring with the visor gelcoat on a navy blue "neighbor" boat. We have been concerned, since this surface deterioration does not seem to match the condition of any other gelcoat on that boat. It is a great relief to know that we can get control of this one before it becomes a problem. TugNuts is a wonderful site, thanks to generous owners, and backed up by a great manufacturer. Alex, "Kamalani"
