My Cutwater is just under three years old and the window sealant is breaking down. This is the black sealant around the non opening windows and windshield. It is alligatoring, getting brittle and crumbling off.

Anyone have similar experience or have thoughts on what may be done to correct, rework, or replace it?

Thanks

Not sure what product is being used now, but I have helped a few tugs reseal their windows. The product is available via Home depot. It is a door seal self sticking product. I believe it was 1/4 inch thick and about 3/8 inches wide.

Hi Kip,
I would suggest a 4200 marine urethane that is UV protected. With the Florida environment this is the best sealant to use.

I am not sure if I would use the 4200. I would stick with the original product http://www.homedepot.com/p/Frost-Ki...lar-Rubber-Weather-Strip-Tape-V25BA/100024263 or similar product. My experience has been that the failure is due to the material not properly turned around the corners. 4200 will be an installation mess and although not permanent will be a bear to release in the event of a later removal necessity.
