Soon to pickup my R29CB. Are hatches, doors and windows open to the outside? Are screens available to keep mosquitoes etc out? I do notice curtains on some windows, is the forward sleeping birth kept dark or does that require some tweaking.

Thanks

Sounds to me like some one has more anchor chain than they can swim with!
Or just cabin fever from all the snow!

We just installed OceanAir screen/shade units on the four ceiling hatches of our Cutwater-24. They are not cheap, but they are very nice, allowing full open access to the hatch cover and allow full light in, or screen cover to keep out bugs but allow in air and light, or translucent shade cover to allow some light in.

The side windows next to the helm and the companion seat have Velcro'd screens but you have to loosen the bottom Velcro if you want to reposition the windows with them installed. The head portlight has a built in screen. None of the other side portlights in the salon or berths open. The two overhead hatches in the berth and the two in the salon have removable screens which need to be removed to open/shut/reposition the hatches. All of the screens have worked pretty well for us, so far, but we haven't had a full summer test, yet. The salon door and lifting window next to the salon door do not have screens.

The forward berth can be kept somewhat dark. The side portlights are tinted and tilted down a little which helps keep pier lights out. The overhead hatches are tinted, too, but don't block enough light to keep the berth extremely dark.

For those of us who live on the East coast, and especially the Southeast, this is a very real concern.

The other 1/2 requires tape over the AC, alarm clock led at home. She is avery light sleeper . Several years ago 10 friends we rented a House Boat on the Rideau Canal. What fun, other than the agony of being eaten alive by mosquitoes. Eventually we pulled into a local town and bought a roll of screening and tape. Not fancy but made the rest of the trip memorable. The genesis of my questions. Thanks for the input.

We have a Sunbrella fabric square that covers the forward berth hatch to block light when needed. It attaches with Velcro. We have a screen that can be placed in the cockpit door, also with Velcro.

We're in Florida, so controlling the amount of sun (and heat) entering through the windows and hatches is important. The previous owners of our R29S found (or had made) sunscreens for the windshield and all the hatches. The material appears to be the same as that used for car windshields, aluminized gold on one side, silver on the other, sandwiching what seems to be a thin layer of foam. The hatch screens are placed between the bug screens and the hatch glass, and are thin enough that they don't interfere with the bug screen placement. They are quite effective in keeping out light at night as well as day.

For the portlights, the previous owner found a set of what appear to be small round potholders made of cloth that fit almost perfectly into the portlights. Also quite effective at blocking out the light.

Now I just need a piece of tape over the wine cooler's display panel!

Would you mind telling us where you sourced the OceanAir units and what was involved to measure for the correct size?

Thanks!

I am interested in source and measurements as well.

I installed Ocean Air shades on our 2015 25-SC in 2016. They are GREAT! (but expensive, about 100 bucks per shade I think). Easy enough to install. Keeps the tug much cooler during the warm summer months. Also keeps out that early morning light for those wanting a little extra shut eye...
