Wine cooler on/off switch on 2019 R29 CB NW Edition?

Subject: Wine cooler on/off switch on 2019 R29 CB NW Edition?

I do use my Wine cooler at times, and when not requiring it I always power it OFF. However, my grandkids and adults alike typically and inadvertently will bump up against the push power button and turn the Wine Cooler's power ON. When I want to disconnect boat to shore power for a week I now always have to check the darn cooler to make sure it's powered OFF.

Is there another switch somewhere that can be used to disable the On/Off power switch for the Wine Cooler ?

Hi Barry:

We do not use the wine cooler on our R29S so because of that I took the spade fuse out. I did this because I found the on/off control was easy to activate by bumping into the control. By taking the fuse out I’ve eliminated the potential to turn the thing on. You might consider this for when you’re not using it. We use ours for storage.

Our wine cooler stopped working. I was going to replace it, but after I removed it we realized this is the best place for a garbage can. Two problems solved at once!

Yes it does very nicely to 41 at times. I'm a White wine person so like it cooled down, and also I like my cream sherry cooled. 😀 I'm pleased with my Wine cooler. It has been used when having small parties onboard for several sunset cruises where I partake of other substances. :lol:

Jim: Thanks for that tip for removing the Wine Cooler's fuse... excellent, as that's an easy solution. I'm for the most time solo and the storage space on this R29 CB for me alone is far more than I need (several storage lockers are completely empty) and would not ever seriously think of doing away with my Wine cooler, plus my friends and family are mightily impressed I have such an appliance on the boat. 🙂

We like the wine cooler - for wine, and admittedly because it’s impressive, but also because it’s a great place to store fresh produce. But we also found the switch was super easy to push without realizing it. (My wife and I would each accuse the other of bumping it on or off.) With fresh veggies, it was important to keep it on. When at anchor, we tried to store produce elsewhere and keep it off because we found it to be a significant drain on the battery (not well insulated I think and long “on” times). So we ended up using double sided tape to affix a tiny block, the length of the switch, immediately above and below the switch, causing the switch to be recessed between the two projections. That was actually Suzanne’s idea and it seems to have solved the problem.

Yes, I also hide certain goodies in the Wine cooler as a precaution for avoiding the small grandkids finding them otherwise to easily in the Refrigerator. They know Grandad always has goodies onboard :lol: I tell them I keep my mouth wash bottles in the Wine Cooler. :lol:

on the R29 are there vents on the back of the cupboard to let the heat out from the winefridge?
I think on the cutwater too much heat gets in through the front door glass and the heat from the heat exchanger cannot escape because the whole fridge is encapsulated in a glassfiber carpet wrapped box.

The opening that the Wine Cooler is installed in is nicely vented (a large opening) on its aft side and some on the backside. A large Webasto heater duct does pass through underneath the Wine Cooler hole's flooring and delivers an enormous amount of heated air to the fwd stateroom's berth area (super nice on chilly nights).
