Hi Guys,

Winterizing my boat for the first time. Any advice on using the Super Tech anit-freeze from Walmart? Seems to be the cheapest at $2.58 per gallon. Any reason not to go with this one?

Many people prefer antifreeze without alcohol, which is more expensive. I have been using the Walmart stuff, which has alcohol, forever without any issues. You will notice on the bottle that it "protects" to -50 degrees. However, it will freeze, if very cold to a slushy mix. This means it won't harden and possibly bursts a pipe or fitting at -50 degrees.

Check out the web seminar( "As the prop turns") on winterizing.

Would never use the cheap alcohol base stuff in engine blocks and expensive components. I use the -100 poly base stuff from West Marine .
That being said...I use the cheap alcohol base for other plumbing including my RV and seasonal cabin with no problems for a couple decades now.......word to the wise.....I use air to blow out the water first so there is minimal dilution factor....we freeze down to - 30F here......good anti freeze is cheaper than the mess and fix....happy winterizing out there...
