Snow day, school canceled, how about a boat ride!?

We had a great day on the water. My one complaint, trying to keep the front windows from fogging up. There must be lots of folks that have done extensive cold weather cruising over the years. What do you do to keep the windows from fogging up? The window fans on the newer 29 were surprisingly inadequate in today's weather.

Portable DC hairdryer? DC oscillating fan? Product applied to the windows?

We use rain-x on the outside of the windows but that doesn't seem to help with fog.

We use a 12 volt auto defogger that you can buy from most auto parts stores. It would mount by suction cup where the captains hat is sitting in your photo. That and keeping a window or hatch open a crack to let moist air out should do the trick.

Call me crazy but I seem to remember using a raw potato with the juice of a fresh cut rubbed over the inside to the window. Clean the window after doing this......just saying!

Rain-X does make an inside window formula that we have found helps with fogging. Also, a portable 12v fan helps. Short of that, in previous commercial boats, one person gets "wiping duty."

A follow-up, the 12 volt defogger we have is a Caframo mini ceramic defogger.

When I first laid eyes on the new R-29 with its massive, space age window and three wimpy fans I knew we had trouble. I bought two small 12v fans that could be mounted with suction cups above the window and can direct air onto it. These do the trick and get stowed when the weather warms up. I also have a nice squeegee on a long handle for desperate fogging situations. And yes, cracking the window helps.

Oh, and I meant to add that I have used the Rain-X interior anti-fogging stuff. As a R29 owner you know what a pain it is to crawl up over the stateroom to clean the windows. Well, the Rain-x was an epic fail. I may have done something wrong, but it really didn't help much. Just made th fog look different.

A friend just gave me one of these and it works well if you can reach the windows: https://www.amazon.com/Karcher-Window-V ... B00336EUMW

This winter has been colder than the last several and I've wondered why double pane windows never seem to be used on boats. Too fragile? Too heavy? Too expensive?

thanks everyone, a lot of good ideas.

We permanently installed 2 Caframo mini ceramic defoggers on our R25. They work OK, but not great, although they are definitely better than nothing.
