Is it necessary to do anything to the washdown pump or the freshwater system if the boat is stored in salt water? If not, what temperature are you keeping the inside of your boat during especially cold days in Seattle?

Thanks,

Hi Ron, There are several threads on this so you can look for different opinions. On my old R29 I used Caframo heater and Stor-Dry units in the cabin at 40 degrees with an alarm when the power goes out. I had a Pali engine heater. No other winterizing and we've been down to 4 degrees. I did have the cockpit shower break, which was likely the cold. Some folks installed shut offs below the waterline for the shower. I also bought a de-humidifier to cut down on the moisture.

Here is my winterization steps taken here in San Diego:
1. Ensure you you full fuel tank.
2. Ensure you have plenty of beer in fridge.
3. Undo mooring lines and go fishing as many times as the skipper will allow you.

Hi Ron, we are moored at Elliott Bay Marina. Have been since 2018, 2022 with our Ranger Tug. On or R27OB, we have the Pali Bilge heater plugged and Caframo cabin heater. We had an incident where the pex pipe T-fastner froze an split, so now we disconnect the fresh water pump and blow air to empty the lines, after running the tank to a!most empty. Draining and open hot water tank as well. We also due the pink RV water treatment to the head, described in detail in other posts. This is done prior to approaching cold fronts and or long layover winter months.
