I have a 2015 C30S that I will be storing in cold inside storage in WI. I have winterized all the systems and engine but it occurred to me that I had not done anything with the
Macerator pump.

I did not use it this year but can’t be sure that the past owner did not use it last year (I stored inside heated last year). This year I completely pumped and cleaned the holding tanks and put 5 gal of -75 antifreeze in the holding tank. I also ran 2 gal through the toilet into the holding tank.

Do I need to do anything with the
Macerator pump?

Please let me know.

Thanks

I would turn the pump on. Hold a bucket under the discharge and have someone turn it on till you see the antifreeze. You will need to turn the the Y valve to the overboard position. You will then know antifreeze is in the pump where you want it to be.

Hi Brian,

Before anything, please make sure your holding tank is completely empty and flushed out.

What I usually do for the toilet system is I add antifreeze to the strainer that runs to the toilet (with the seacock closed). I then have a second person repeatedly press the "add water" button for the toilet while I pour antifreeze into the strainer. I do this until I get antifreeze to the toilet. I then pour antifreeze (about 1 gallon) into the toilet and then flush. I open the valve and then I run the macerator until I see the antifreeze come out of the thru-hull.

Feel free to email me for any more winterizing questions!

It is not possible to completely flush out and clean a holding tank in Michigan where one goes to Michigan Municipal Marine to have a pump out where they flush it out a couple times. In Michigan the boat's mascerator lever switch would be in the off position as required by law. To thereafter have the boat removed from the water and then have the lever placed in the position where the tank would be pumped would then cause the mascerator to pump nothing by feces. How does one winterize the holding tank without pumping out all the feces as such is not possible.
