Hello,

I have 2021 Ranger R25 tug and sadly approaching the end of the season. To winterize is it recommended to change the oil and gear lube? Or to do in the spring or both times? Other than fogging the engine and a good wash what else recommended to do to the engine?

Engine is four stroke Yamaha 250.

Thanks!!

Change it at the end of the season. If you were to find water in the oil, or metal shavings, etc… you’ll have time to get the warranty work done in the off-season. Also, you’ll have fresh oil in it all winter and be ready to start it up in the spring.

Always do the maintenance at the end of the season. You don't want crummy oil with contaminants sitting around all winter in the engine. I do the complete 100 hour maintenance end of year. Change oil, oil filter, primary and secondary fuel filters, spark plugs. Grease all the zerc fittings for the steering of the engine. I also replace the thermostats. Change out the lower gear oil, replace the water pump and inspect the water pump housing. I use Yamashield spray and coat the entire engine under the cowling with it. I put in a 1:10 (1oz to 10gallons fuel) mix of Yamaha Ring Free into the fuel tank. I also put in 1:3 (1oz to 3 gallons fuel) mixture of Yamaha Fuel Stabilizer into the fuel tank. Inspect the zinc's on the trim tabs and under the engine mount, replace if necessary.

We actually use our boat year round and she stays in the water, so I don't fog anything.

great information. Thanks all for the comeback!
