Winterizing Water Heater Bypass System for 2014 R-29 Classic:
Attached are some photos of a water heater bypass and water tank bypass using an attachment to the Johnson Water Pump. All items except the water pump fixture are available from your local hardware store. I recommend not shortening the water lines to the water heater in case you want to put the system back as original. I added a piece of tubing to the Water Heater drain to drain water in the tank into the bilge instead of the side compartment. Parts needed are: three pass through valves, reinforced ½ inch tubing, 6 plastic tubing nipples (stay away from brass fittings because of the lead content). The Johnson Pump parts and fittings Number is 09-46938 is available from West Marine and plugs into the water pump at the filter system, with a tube to the gallon antifreeze jug. It takes about 1 ½ gallons of RV antifreeze to flush out the hot and cold water lines. The bypass system saves the cost of many gallons antifreeze that fill up the water heater before passing through the hot water system. I use the remaining antifreeze for the head and holding tank. Thanks Ranger Tug for making the water heater very assessable in our R-29.
