Winterizing a R-31 SE

This is what we did to winterize our new R-31SE last year:

1.Fill fuel tank and add STANADYNE DIesel fuel treatment and BIOBOR JF - Diesel fuel biocide.
2.Empty Fresh Water Tank.
3.Empty Waste Tank.
4.Install CAFRAMI PALI 9510 engine heater.
5.Install small Dehumidifier (placed in Galley adjacent to sink, with water running into the sink from dehumidifier).
6. Warm up engine every couple of weeks.

Our boat is moored in Eagle Harbor, WA.

Hi Claus,

We have a similar boat, also in Eagle Harbor and I plan to do the same as you for the winter. Couple of questions:

-Where in the engine compartment did you mount the Pali Heater?
-Where did you get the power for the heater (did you install a 110 V outlet in the compartment or just run extension cords?)
-Did you do anything to winterize the outside water taps? (Sink & Shower on the transom.)

What make and model dehumidifier do you use?

Ken,

I mounted the Pali heater on the front of the wood “shelf” (located between the engine compartment and the steering compartment).

The cord from the Pali is long enough to go inside the boat to the compartment under the floor and from there under the carpet to the 110 volt outlet next to the sink. I cut a small “notch” so the power cord would not be pinched when the lid closes.

I will take som pix next time I go to the boat to show how the cable is routed. Also get the make of the small dehumidifier.

We mount the Pali heater at the same place on the wooden shelf but plug it into the outlet on the inverter in the port lazarette. For the water system, especially the faucets, empty the water and put a couple of gallons of RV anti freeze in the tank, then run that through the faucets.

i also now pour a 5 gal lot of pink antifreeze into the freshwater tank and pump and it into the heater. on my boat the heater is out in the cockpit lazarette and it would freeze as its above the water line.
