I pulled my boat yesterday. It sitting on a trailer in my back yard in New England.

Is it ok to plug my boat in over the winter using a adaptor and a standard extension cord?

My though here is I’d leave the battery charger ON and let it keep the batteries topped of over winter.

Thoughts?

That is what I did to my 27OB last winter.

Your should have no problem. Keep in mind though that if you plug into a Ground fault outlet there is a tendency for it to trip so use a recusal outlet to plug into.

I found the adaptor and ordered it to plug in the extension cord in my back yard.

If I have the :

-house main switch on the panel off
-the big red disconnect switch turned to off
-And the battery charger turned to ON,
Will this charge the batteries all winter?

In other words, what should be left ON and what should be left OFF to reduce unnecessary draws on the battery. For example, I had to turn the house main red disconnect off to turn off the light in the fridge while the door is propped open for humidity reasons.

All battery switches in the off position. The CO detector, auto bilge pumps , bilge alarm, and volt gauge is wired ( powered all the time) from thruster battery. The fuse block for the mentioned systems is located at carpeted panel that is removable on the aft wall just below the power distribution panel. You can remove the fuses to reduce battery draw over the winter. During the winter months I pull the refrigerator fuse, and N2K fuse so that when I work on the boat or check it and turn house battery switch on these systems do not turn on.

I personally would not leave the boat plugged in all winter with the charger on. If the batteries are in good condition, fully charged when the boat is put in storage and there is no draw on them. The batteries should maintain a charge condition through out the winter. Plug the boat's shore power in on a monthly interval with charger on should be more than adequate. If you fully charged the batteries before storage and disconnected all negative leads from the batteries (in good condition) the batteries will maintain a charge condition through out the winter.
