Winterizing water system

Drained the water tank . Drained the hot water tank via valve on red hose .
Put 9 gal rv antifreeze in wAter tank. Now it’s only spitting air with occasional RV fluid on cold side, none on hot. Mostly air coming out.

Thought this was going to be easy!

If you have drained the hot water tank you will need to by pass it for the hot water side to work... or totally fill the hot water tank with antifreeze..
Next time drain the water and hot water tanks.. bypass the hot water tank ( join the in and out lines together) remove the hose from the pick up side of you water pump. Install a short length of hose on the pick up side and stick the end into a jug of antifreeze .... Then turn on the pump and open each tap until you see pink .. Uses a lot less antifreeze and you don’t have a month of trying to get the antifreeze taste/ smell out of your water tank.

I did it this way last year and it worked great. Any RV or marine store has the fitting that clips into the pump. Attach it to a short hose into your antifreeze jug. I blew back through the hoses to the water tanks to clear them. I was worried about residual water pooling and freezing, but it survived -30C no problem.

Ha ha. No -30 here, that was in Whitehorse. Now the boat stays in the slip and I'm figuring out a different system to do minimal winterizing and still use her on the nice days. Hoping to get out tomorrow 🙂
