Happy and safe boating to all! Here's a suggestion to anyone who has a 3YM30 engine and needs to change or adjust the tension of the raw water pump belt. The 13mm adjustment nut is almost impossible to get to from the front of the engine. On my engine the water pump pulley extends down and partially blocks access to the adjustment nut just to the point where a socket wont fit. Getting to the nut from the side is possible but visualizing the nut to place a wrench on it is an issue. That's where an open end ratchet wrench comes into play. IT'S WONDERFUL to place the wrench on the nut ONE TIME, a few ratchets later the nut is tight and NO BLEEDING or CURSING!.

Hello CK,

I had this problem too as I tried to tension the raw water pump belt. You are right - it's a knuckle-busting, cussing job :cry:

Could you post a pic of the actual type of wrench to which you refer?

That is good to know! I was actually looking at the tension on mine last weekend it seems a bit loose, do you remember what is the tension required on this belt?
 
Open end ratchet wrench? Got a pic?
I suspect it's a closed end ratchet wrench (by your description of clearance available).
Possibly a claw foot ratchet wrench (rare)?
No offense intended, but this is useful info for others.
You know what they say, "The right tool for the right job". It can change a 'heck' of a job into a simple delight. 🙂
