Can anyone tell me if "The World of Ranger Tugs" map is still functioning? I have submitted my info a few times over the past year and 1/2 with no results?

Thanks in advance,
Dayle

Same with me.

I started the map several years ago when there were two models being built by Fluid Motion. I kept up through 5 Ranger Tug models and 3 Cutwater models. They've gone from one factory to several factories and have sold many hundreds of boats at an accelerating pace.

Over this period Google has changed the format and interface of the Maps feature a number of times, which have lead to varying degrees of frustration. I also manage Tugnuts and both of Fluid Motions Facebook pages. Those platforms have scaled right along with the factories. All of this on a volunteer basis.

We are currently preparing to upgrade the Tugnuts platform want to improve integration with the other assets. I plan on updating the map after the winter boat show season when we have a better grasp on the plan for the broader platform. All of the requests are queued up waiting for some stability and a little bandwidth.

Meanwhile, the Tugnuts forum continues to be a great way to reach out and find boaters in your area. Sorry for the long delay, and thanks for your patience.

Cheers,

Bruce

Thanks Bruce, was wondering why multiple submissions never showed up.

Thanks, Bruce, for the explanation. Sounds like a lot of work. Hope the changes go well!
We appreciate all you do to keep this valuable site going!

Thanks Bruce, it is quite apparent you have your hands full and I by no means want to add to that, so I appreciate your response and I will wait patiently for up-dates.

Thanks again,
Dayle

Bruce,
thank you
have a great week.

Bruce,
Thanks for letting us know where things stand with the map. I to appreciate what you are doing and all your hard work making it happen.
Thanks,
Bill

I hope Fluid Motion is compensating you somehow for your efforts. That’s a lot of skilled labor and a big responsibility at this point with size of the community. 🙂

Bruce,

We're recent R25-Classic owners and would like to enter our info but wasn't sure who to direct it to. Would that be you?? We are third owner and would like to know who in the Tampa Bay area are fellow tug nuts. Let us know what is needed and we will gladly participate.

It's obvious from Bruce's post that he has his hands full so to speak. He's been handling Tugnuts for some 10 years now.

Maybe some thought should be given by RT to offer a helping hand to Bruce with another 'skilled' volunteer person to deal with some of the outstanding matters Bruce has outlined. As Bruce has said... RT & CW have grown considerable with many new boat models, some of which have been abandoned but still in use by owners.

The Google Maps feature (Tugnuts Map) was first setup late in 2010 and from my inspection has at this time some 240 boats listed in the side bar.... and some of these are old in as much as the owners have moved on to other RT and non-RT/CW boat models. Keeping the map up-to-date has to be a labor of love.

Using the Google Maps feature is not free. It starts off at $200/month free credit then goes up based on usage per month. New billing policy is being released July 16 this year I believe.

I don't know what Bruce had to do to get the first Tugnuts Map up and running but suspect knowledge of HTML programming/coding is required.

No matter, thanks Bruce for your 10 years of devoted volunteered effort ... much appreciated. Reach out if you need help.

Bruce I also want to thank you for letting us know the World of Tugs is shut down as I tried to sign on several times with no answer.

Three years and about six emails asking to be added to the map ... not one response 🙂 Guess we know know.

TUGNUTS has saved me many boat dollars...Thanks Bruce, wish I had the skills to help...Tex

Don’t know how you do it Bruce especially after 10 years. Thank you for all your efforts in making the forum such a success

Hi folks. I'm sorry for the static state of the map and understand why it's important to all of us. Thanks to those of you who have expressed appreciation. When I started moderating and providing admin support for Tugnuts in Nov. 1998 there were 5 registered members. Now there are more than 5,000. When I started the map there was one line and 2 or 3 boat models in production. Now there are two lines with 16 models in production or on the water. We've done some growing.

We are currently developing a new platform for Tugnuts which will be more robust and configurable. One of the challenges of scaling the map/site along with Fluid Motion's growth has been the ability to easily add new models. It became difficult to keep forum and map elements in sync and our bandwidth became constrained. The communications team is made up two awesome guys (Sam and Brian - you've all seen them do more and more) and 1 volunteer, me.

Google maps has become increasingly difficult and costly and I have let it slide. I have every request for changes and additions queued up. My PM mailbox is perpetually full (500) and I have to delete old PMs from my archive to be able to read new ones. But I have saved every map request.

When the new platform is launched and stable we will assess the best way to revive the map. We want the entire community to be able to find and see each other, privacy constraints well in mind, and find other ways to share the amazing presence achieved by these awesome boat builders and owners. I, for one, would love to post giant maps in every factory so all the hard working and talented men and women who build these boats can see the results of their efforts whenever they look up.

Until we get it figured out please use this forum to reach out to folks in your cruising grounds. Put your home port in your signature file - you can create one in your User Control Panel. Active members who want to reach out will. And know that many thousands who just visit the forum want to know where they can see our boats. As I type this there are 5 registered members online and 51 guests. That's typical.

Meanwhile, we just brought our 4th Ranger Tug home from the factory dock in Des Moines, WA. She is moored in C-50 at Elliott Bay Marina and we welcome any of you in the area to stop by and see her. And, she's not on the map and we can't select R-41 for our profile. But she sure is sweet.

Cheers,

Bruce

How about some of you start topics like "Ranger Tugs in Puget Sound" or "Cutwater Boats in the Great Lakes". In our next version of Tugnuts we'll introduce tagging (hashtags), like #rangertugsWA or #cutwaterboatsFL. This will apply to all topics, i.e. #towing, or #dinghy, or #garmin. We'll prime archival topics/threads but will watch for stuff you seed.

Bruce is an invaluable member of this team and the Ranger Tugs family. His dedication to this community is unmatched and he's greatly appreciated by everyone at the factory from John and Jenn Livingston, Jeff Messmer, all the customer service team, and especially myself and Brian.

We've talked about the map several times over the years and will do so again once the updated tugnuts platform has been launched.

thanks to everyone for their patience on the map and thank you, Bruce for your hard work.
