XM & Fusion

Hi all,

Our SiriusXM is no longer showing as a 'source' on the Fusion stereo- is there a separate fuse (in-line or on a block) for the Sirius module? Where would the Sirius module be mounted? C-288, Sirius subscription is active- Thank you in advance-

Does your boat have the garmin GXM 54 receiver? If you’re concerned about power to it, see if the device shows up on garmin active captain. I don’t see any fuse specific to the gxm 54 in the cutwater manual, but that could be an oversight on cutwater.

The GXM 54 manual does indicate a 12 volt connection is required, so there must be a fuse somewhere, I will take a look tomorrow.

As a side note, channel surfing creations now has C-288 merchandise, but you will have ask them for it. I love my fleece jacket 😀

The Garmin GXM 54 is listed on Active Captain and the unit had been showing XM a few weeks ago.. will update the the Fusion today and see if that helps- thanks for the Swag link-

So, the GXM 54 does not show up as connected when looking at the Garmin screen on the boat. Ensured that all the connections to the NMEA backbone and to the MFDs were intact. The Fusion works through the MFDs, so the GXM 54 is off-line- just need to find it....

Have you seen it in your travels? I looked in the quarter berth access to no avail-

While it might not sound like much, I always found changing the Sirius station via the Garmin system a bit tedious, especially if I were on a mooring and the system turned off while the stereo was still on. After just one season of that I decided it was well worth it to spend the extra $120 for the SiriusXM SXV-300B tuner with Shakespeare marine antenna kit.

The tuner just plugs right into the back of the fusion stereo, and the antenna plugs right into the tuner with a tiny cable/connector that is very easy to run. (Although I'll admit to getting the tiny car antenna first and just placing it on the dash, and it actually worked great for the first year before I felt like pulling cable from the mast down to the stereo)

The best part of this is that I now have full control of the full stereo system all in one place, and can control it and change channels via the fusion app on my phone while on the bow or cockpit without having to turn the Garmin system on.

Just had to call SiriusXM and have them replace the existing audio id with the new tuner's Id number so I didn't have to pay for anything additional.

Have not seen it, did find an unlabeled 5 amp fuse in fuse block 2, below the radar fuse. Have no idea what it powers

If you are looking for the gxm53/54 power/data/audio module, It's going to be mounted either within 6' of the screens at the helm, or in rare cases a gms10 network switch. It does not connect to nmea2000, rather it uses the Garmin Marine Network similar to the radar, sounder module, etc.

On c30's and c28's it's been located in the fuse compartment at the back of the quarter berth, but given the layout change to the 288 my guess is it's behind the fridge or a drawer in the galley (assuming it's not hiding in plain sight inside the helm).

Thank you F_O_F, the module is on the bulk-head in the QB, red light is 'on' so power. All the connectors directly into the MFDs (v.s. NMEA) are solid- so likely a GXM54 unit failure vs. fuse or loose cable- thank you all for your advise. Time to call in Pocket Yachts... R/
