Here I am again. I pulled the trigger on that 2010 Ranger Tug with the Yanmar 4JH110 repower. This is my first powered craft so I'm excited but more than a little overwhelmed - so much to learn! The tugnuts have been most helpful. At first it looked like there was no auto-pilot, then we found components (pump, controller and head unit (!) in the aft SB compartment. The A/P works intermittently but I will attempt a fix with a credit the seller offered. I will relocate the head unit to the helm.
The latest challenge: The new Yanmar is not connected to the Garmin GPS5212 chartplotter. There is a standalone Yanmar helm station. I want to integrate the 2022 Yanmar t the Garmin. Have any of you used the Yacht devices US Engine Gateway YDEG-04 successfully? It claims to take data from the engine harness and make it available on the NMEA2000 backbone. I would like all the Yanmar data and gages up on the Garmin including fuel levels, burn, etc.

The VC20/VC30 Vessel Control System and a NMEA2000 Engine monitoring system are listed as an option for your engine on the Yanmar website. Do you have these options installed?

I installed the YDEG-04 after replacing a 15 year old 4BY180 with a 4LV170, retaining the old 5212. No issues beyond the awkwardness of the spaghetti-monster wiring snarl behind my helm. It works: NMEA-accessible & instantly displayed on the Garmin /Info/Engines tab. I double-checked my interpretation of the typically rudimentary "manual" with their tech support guys - found them promptly responsive and helpful. The thing comes with Deutsch connectors matching the Yanmar plugs, pretty much a matter of turn off power, snap it into place, power up.

I don’t have the vc30. I don’t believe the engine monitoring system is present either as that would facilitate engine data on the Garmin. I believe the C35 panel is all that is connected to the engine. I should look at that yanmar engine monitoring system as a way to get all the data I’d like.

That is very helpful! I believe the existing Yanmar C35 electronic display is plugged straight into the data port of the engine. I want to keep the basic yanmar panel that shows basic data and starts/stops the engine. I wonder if the YDEG-04 folks have a piggy-back connector so that the old panel still works with the NMEA adapter piggy-backed onto engine data port? I’ll reach out to yacht devices support
 
That's exactly how I did it with the OEM Yanmar B25 display.
The "piggyback" is intrinsic to the YDEG-04 harness.
