Hello,

I'm taking delivery of my gently used 2016 Ranger Tug 25 early next week and thinking about how to get her ready for cruising. I was looking at YachtBedding.com and thinking about one of their packages to convert the v-birth into a comfortable bed. Has anyone used this vendor and were you pleased with the quality of their mattress cover, sheets and bed spread cover? I'm concerned about purchasing the bedding package (customized for the 2016 Ranger Tug 25) and making the storage bins under the v-birth cushions inaccessible. Has anyone "installed" the bedding package and found that it's light and flexible enough to still get to those v-birth storage bins on port and starboard? Thanks in advance for sharing your experience around bedding and any other tips and tricks you may have for making the boat comfortable.

I've read a lot of positive comments about Yacht Bedding on Tugnuts. I had the same concerns about accessing the storage areas though. I'm currently talking to Handcraft Mattress Company about getting one made for our V-berth. I can't find much mention of them on Tugnuts (if anyone has experience I'd love to hear it) but on cruisersforum they have a lot of good comments. One of the big pluses for their solution is they have a hinged model so you can fold the mattress over, as well as a zippered option to make it into 2 pieces.

We had a 2015 R25 for six years and found access to the storage bins under the cushions was difficult, period. We only kept items in them that we would only need infrequently at best. We kept the center cushions in place all the time and the bed made up with an inexpensive mattress pad. We used plastic bins for our clothes that fit nicely in the center portion that we could reach with the bed in place.
When we ordered our 2021 R29SC we spent the funds to get the Yacht Bedding package because of the unusual shape of the bed in the forward berth. We just spent a week on the boat and wow, we thought our bed at home was comfortable but the Yacht Bedding mattress pad was superb. The Yacht Bedding price tag is up there, but if it does not scare you or your bank account, the comfort level will not disappoint you!

We agree with Todd. We ordered the mattress and bedding for our C28. The mattress is very comfortable and sheets are high quality. If you order I would recommend speaking with someone from Yacht Bedding to make sure the order is correct as there are several options to consider. We believe the product is worth the price tag. Regarding storage bins under the seats, yes it makes them difficult to access.

I have had a Yacht Bedding mattress for my C-28 for several years now. Very happy with it.

+1 we love the Yacht Bedding mattress! Beyond that, the sheets are fine, not wonderful but nice to be fitted. We didn't like the awkward and heavy comforter and use a down alternative regular comforter instead. But the mattress is exceptional and would definitely purchase again.

Access to storage is slightly more difficult due to the increased weight of the mattress but not that much more. It is difficult in any case and we keep rarely needed things there like spare parts.

Thanks everyone for your feedback. Based on your recommendation we’ve place the order for our R25 SC bedding. Costly for sure but a prudent investment for a good nights sleep from your experiences. Shannon at YachtBedding.com has been very responsive to my questions via email. We’re getting a second fitted sheet as a back up which they don’t normally do (they only come in sets) but for $135.00 they will make an exception.

Late to the party. We finally "bit the bullet" and bought from them for our RT29S. Pricey, but we are very pleased with the results. Much more comfortable sleep and the fitted sheets, bedspread, are nice.

When I bought my R-29S (2017 edition) I, too, bit the bullet and bought the top o' the line bedding material (including the memory-foam mattress pad) for my queen-sized, island-berth bed. One of the best decisions I've ever made.

It it, without a doubt, the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. That include land-based beds.

No, it's not cheap. But, yes, if you value good-quality, long-term sleep, it's worth it.

Best of luck to you and yours,

Johnnie the K

Which mattress material did you all get? Memory-foam or the latex? I’m considering which type to get.

We went with memory foam, and have been very happy with that (2 years so far). My thinking was that we have always been happy with memory foam toppers whereas the one time I ever tried a latex mattress it was too firm -- but that is purely anecdotal. It seems folks are happy with both in this case.

We have used both the memory foam topper and the latex topper. We like the latex material better because it doesn't get as hot especially in the warmer nights. It also does appear to be a little firmer.

We finally got our mattress set and the hinge does it make it a lot easier to access the storage. The mattress basically folds over on the zipper so it doesn't flop back over.
