Yamaha motor shortages?

When I was talking with the dealer about available options, he mentioned that Fluid Motion was being affected by a Yamaha motor supply shortage and that they would not currently be able to offer the 9.9 kicker motor. I did a little searching online and it seems as though this is an industry-wide thing, and folks trying to just buy their own kicker motors are having a hard time sourcing them as well.

Has anybody else heard about this? Anybody try to order a boat and run into this issue? Has anybody added a kicker after taking delivery (what all is involved? are there things that can only be done at build time?)

Hello Brian,

Parts in general are becoming harder and harder to get. We have managed to keep going with a fresh order of Yamaha engines that arrived today. Being exclusive with Yamaha has saved us big time as most dealers around the country are completely out and won't see engines for months. In regards to kickers, we wont be receiving anything until April at the earliest. If you are working with a dealership, I would keep in touch with them directly as they will be the ones to help you rig the engine once they become readily available. For now, we have removed them completely from our ordering system so we don't make any promises that we cannot keep.

Thanks Andrew. Our build slot is not until May so I will be keeping my fingers crossed that things change in the meantime.

My dealer told me that they had to ship a 9.9 that they had to ranger in order to get a kicker on the boat and that was a few months ago.

Well our boat is about to go into production and the latest word from Cutwater is that there are still no kicker motors available. We will get the factory bracket installed, but does anybody have any hot leads on a Yamaha T9.9XPHB? 😀
