Had a check engine alarm come on. Tried restarting to see if it was a glitch. Tried looking up causes before calling a technician with no luck. Anyone have suggestions on what to check?

You should be able to go through the Yanmar display menu and go to the area and find the code and then look it up. Check engine can come on for a number of issues. What were the conditions when the alarm went on? Something as simple as the vacuum hose coming off of the turbo control valve and going at high RPM can cause the alarm. That was a problem I had. I finally purchase a small screw type clamp and never had the issue again.

To check the codes
Ignition on
On the engine panel, press button 5 (across the bottom line of buttons) Hold for ~5 seconds.
A menu will pop up
Select "alarms".
Then button 4 - Diagnostic Codes
If there are any, they should come up.

My contact at Yanmar was Michael Angland 770-877-9894

Good luck

all the yan mars are very sensitive to the level of antifreeze i.e. coolant in the fresh water system. if this alarm occurs when you are running, with the engine at operating temperature, check that the level of coolant in the overflow tank is at the top 'full' mark not at the bottom 'min' mark. also check oil level on the dipstick of the engine. low coolant or low oil will r result in engine overheat alarms which usually occur after you have brought the engine up to operating temperature and start running at more than 2000 RPMs. :?

Thanks for the help. My tug is moored and I occasionally heck on it and run both engine and generator. I had just ran it a few days earlier with no problems. On this occasion, at start up the alarm came on. On my next visit I will check the codes. Thanks for the help and the co tact number!

Much appreciated.
