Found this hose which leads from a banjo fitting on the rear of pressurized coolant tank that disappears under the engine.

the only reason it was found was I had to remove the top engine cover to remove the housing for the pressurized coolant that contains one of the engine anodes which unscrewed from the threaded nut and became lost in the engine. It was recovered fine and didn't seem to do any damage.

For those Yanmar owners who haven't taken their engine covers off, here's one good reason to check.

Temporary fix will be to wrap some rescue tape around hose, or put in some sort of large diameter chafing hose while I wait for 2 very large o-rings to reinstall coolant housing.

I've had my cover off several times in the past year and I'm still blanking out on what you are showing in the photo.
Perhaps a wide shot might help me? Or even a line sketch of the engine from the owner's manual?
Thanks
Rich

Ok; sorry about that.

Here's a screen grab from a Yanmar parts catalog with a red arrow added pointing to hose in question coming from pressurized coolant housing. Note this can only be seen with engine cover removed:

Finally cut out damage section of hose and found more gashes:

As u can see, the hose is RubberHose Variopress 10 bar.

I want to just insert a double barb and connect new section in such a way as to not get any gashes in future. The hose was wedged in very tight in the cramped space indicated by added red line:

For reference, hose is item #31 in parts manual:

For any Mack Boring graduates in the group; I'm not seeing any readily available hose of same type, short of ordering from Yanmar, in the U.S., is there a substitute usable and what does this hose carry?

Just got back from the boat. All is well. My hose is routed the exact same way, but (for whatever reason) doesn't even touch the baffle that yours did. There is a gap there and barely even a mark on the hose. Farther along, towards the centerline, it is squeezed, fairly firmly, between some other (more smooth) surfaces, so I don't worry much about it on my engine.

And BTW, my engine has 1000 hours on it.

Thanks for the heads up, regardless.

Looking t the photo again, I think my "t" fitting may have been oriented a little differently.

Hey Bill,

I am not sure what the hose carries, but the description says "air bleed". Is there enough space to slip some hose protector spiral wrap around it before you install?

Hi Mike:

The space is so tight that it compresses the hose and causes the gashes pictured; no room for floss even.

I'm thinking that drilling some holes in the cover may be necessary.

How is your hose routed?

First off, I don't know how you are able to post photos with your text. I seem to only be able to post them in my album.
I took your photo and added some marks .... and put it in my album.

I believe that we are routed the same way. I was under the impression that your marks were caused by the vertical baffle that runs fore and aft. (location 1 on my photo). My hose doesn't even touch that baffle and has no real marks of wear in that area.

The area that is tight is over by location 3 and, I admit that it is quite tight, but no sharp edges over there that I could see.

On my "second thought" message, I was thinking about the tee fitting and how it was located and oriented. I think the tee might have been a little closer to the centerline of the engine and, I think, it might have been rotated a bit downward such that the hose didn't have to make such a tight passage around the baffle. Like I said mo hose doesn't even tough the baffle (~1/16th clearance) and the gap between point 1 and point 2 is quite large.

If I get back to the boat and get the urge to pull that damn cover off, I'll remember to take a camera.

Use the g2Img button above the posting box to display a picture in your album. It opens a dialog box which allows you to navigate to the album > image > select > submit (way down at the bottom of the dialog box).

Use the Img button to display an image which is stored and is accessible somewhere on the internet. Clicking the button creates a set of img brackets > copy and paste the url of the image and paste it between the ][ brackets.

Use the Preview button (bottom of posting box) to check your post.

Cheers,

Bruce
