A week ago I went to start the engine in my 2013 R29
It cranked but didnt fire up at first. There was a low voltage and Check engine alarm/ warning
I used the parallel switch and tried again and it started. Because the engine and thruster batteries were original
I replaced them with new AGM batteries today.
I tried to start it but it cranked again but did not start.
There is another “check engine” message so I did not try again.
What do you suggest. I’m sure the batteries are now good and the house batteries were all
Replaced a couple of years ago.
The boat is berthed at Vanisle Marina in Sidney. Can you suggest a local yanmar mechanic
Who could trouble shoot the check engine warning. Or suggest other simple things for me to
Check? I thoroughly cleaned the fuse terminals from the engine battery Battery when I was installing the new batteries.
Are there other ground connections that could be corroded and cause a crank but not start condition?

The BY engine hates bad grounding, which can cause erroneous alarms. I ran a dedicated ground straight from the engine battery to a bolt on the transmission. There should be a small ground wire connected from the original install, check that out. You should also be able to read the trouble codes off of the Yanmar display. If you have the manual for the display, the directions to the button sequence is in there.

+1

As a precaution on my 4BY I moved the grounding cable off the engine/transmission to directly under one of the bolts holding the starter motor. I'm not familiar with the 6BY but if its similarly configured, you may consider doing the same.

Since the batteries are new, try running thru the fuel filter priming sequence. Turn the ignition key on to the first position, wait 10 seconds, turn off for 10 seconds. Repeat 4 more times. Turn key on to full start.

My first thought is fuel. Yes with common rail you need 12volt too. Do you hear the electric fuel pump? You should be able to hear it when you go through the starting process. If you hear the fuel pump can you confirm it is pumping? Do you have any signs of fuel leakage in the bilge. Check all hose clamps. Air leaks an fuel leaks even small ones could prevent a engine start. A fuel restriction could prevent an engine start. Check electrical as previous post suggested then move to the fuel system.

I sure would like to get one of those Yanmar fuel pump relays. But Napaonline.com will not deliver to Canada. Is there anyone in the US willing to trade a couple of Gates belts, GT3 270 3MGT which drive the pump in a double flush Jabsco toilet for a ECH AR6276 fuel pump relay. I'll send you 2 belts by mail, you send me 1 relay from NAPA. Howard Pattinson, 1660 Robb Ave., Comox, BC V9M2W7 email: howtide1@outlook.com phone 250-897-6094

Stores They’re are Napa stores in Canada. I was in a Napa store in Shediac, NB about three weeks ago. Most auto parts carry this relay, it’s common, take the old one to the store and match it. Check to make sure where it plugs into is not burnt and is still useable. This is a BMW block so they may have that relay, again, take the old one along and show it to the parts guy

Thank you Knotflying, Alice J and BB marine. I took the 3 relays from the Yanmar (which is a BMW engine) into the local BMW car dealer and they ordered all three for $75, due in 3 days. Cheers.
