My name is Jeff Francovich, I own Hydrotherapy,a R29 2009 with a Yanmar 6BY-260 engine.
I ran it in reverse for 15 minutes while tied off at the dock. Turned it off. Did a visual check of the engine compartment. Tried to start the engine and got an Alarm on the screen. " ALARM NEUTRAL PROTECT PRESS ANY KEY TO CONTINUE" . I cleared it by pressing a button below the screen and tried again after confirming that I was in neutral.I hear the solenoid bump the starter drive but nothing else. The alarm showed again on the screen. Checked the neutral position switch. It was on the raised cam at the neutral position. Unplugged it, still no start. Talked to my mechanic and he said he could not diagnose ECU issues. Talked to Andrew at Fluid Motion, he suggested disconnection the batteries to clear the ECU and try again. I did not have time and live 4 hours from boat. I want a plan when I return. The two Yanmar approved repair services/mechanics all require that I bring the boat to them. A towing operation.
I should be able to clear the ECU from the back of it by pulling the inputs. But still do not know why I am getting the alarm in the first place.
Has anyone dealt with this issue? Any advise?
