Hello fellow Tugnuts. As many of you have experienced issues with your Yanmar BY series engine heater hoses, Yanmar has decided to take immediate action to repair and or replace all heater hoses on all engines that Ranger Tugs and Cutwater boats have installed. We are seeing a rash of weak hoses that are causing the hoses to break overtime allowing the coolant to escape from the internal cooling system on the engine.

These hoses are the ones that exit on the port side of the engine that we clamp our heater hoses to. There are two hoses that are preformed on ALL BY model Yanmar engines.

Yanmar will be contacting each Yanmar BY engine owners directly to schedule repairs to be made on the engine. It is very important that everyone ensures that the engine has been registered through Yanmars website. Please double check this by doing the following:

1. Go to the following website. http://www.yanmarmarine.com
2. Click the "register your engine here" button in the top left hand corner.
3. Update/search existing registration.
a. Engine Serial Number (Example 0051047)
b. Engine Model Number (Example 6BY2-260)
c. Last name (Example Custis)

This will tell you if your engine has been registered. If you cannot locate your engine registration, double check all of the required fields if you know for sure it has been done. If not, try creating a new registration by doing the following:

1. Go to the following website. http://www.yanmarmarine.com
2. Click the "register your engine here" button in the top left hand corner.
3. Create new registration.

4. Date of sale. ( Click the calendar and add date)
5. Enter engine model. (Example 6BY2-260) (Example 4BY2-150) (Example 4BY2-180)
6. Enter engine serial number. (Example 0051047)
7. Enter engine hours. (Example 40)

(Owner Section)
5. Fill out information with asterisk.

(Boat Section)
6. Under Model, enter model number of boat. (Example R21,R25,R27,R29,C26,C28)
7. Hull ID. (Example FMLT2908F011)
8. Boat Type (Example "Power")
9. Application (Example "pleasure")

(Selling dealer Section)

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Linda Noonan at 253-839-5213 and we will be glad to assist you. I am very sorry for any inconvenience this has caused.

I have a little more help now we have progressed a little bit with the heater hose issue on Yanmar BY engines.

Please have a look at the photos attached. If you have the smooth type of yanmar hose that exits the port side of the engine, you have the new style and will not need fixing.

If you have the one that shows some print through, it is the old hose and "will" need replaced.

I have also attached a Yanmar service bulletin. The best way to handle these is to contact the closest Yanmar distributor or Yanmar dealer to have them order and schedule for the hose replacement. You will see on the advisory what Yanmar is willing to cover. Thank you everyone for being patient on this issue. We do appreciate it!

Does this include the BY6 on my new 2013 R 29? Thanks, Gary

Andrew -- That website doesn't seem to be working. The main Yanmar site comes up, but nothing happens from the registration page when I click on the links. I think my 6By2-260 needs to be updated with the new hoses as mine look like the ones you posted the pictures of. Can you provide any additional contact info for Yanmar on this?
Thanks!

Does anyone know whether Yanmar's East Coast Distributor, Mack Boring Co. out of still offers its owner Engine School on these engines ? I took their engine schools on my yan 2GM20F and their 3JHE's , each were very well worth while courses.

kaisardog, (not a tugnut yet, but looking for one in the great lakes )

Yes they do. You can go on their website and see the schedule and cost associated with it. They do classes in New Jersey and Massachusetts.

FYI
Yanmar registration site does not work,

Calling Yanmar and leaving messages or using their web site to leave a question with any issue doesn't work either. Very disappointing customer service.
