I have a new to me 2010 R 29. When I bought the boat in November had a problem where water from around the compass got into the wiring and caused all the instruments to go out. When we trouble shot the problem and determined that it was caused by water the Garmin NEMA 200 bus was rebuilt and separated from the Yanmar CAN Bus. Then after getting under way the data on the CAN bus went out. Since then that problem was traced to double terminating the CAN bus at the helm. The boat is now on the hard after it goes back in the water and I have confidence that the Yanmar bus is working I want to reconnect the two backbones.

I have a good understanding of what is on the Garmin backbone, but don’t for the CAN backbone. Could I get a simple diagram showing the NEMA 2000 tees and what is connected to them? Also, I was told the both backbones are independently powered and that cable connecting them would have to have the power lead cut/disconnected. Is that the case?

Thank you Bruce. Hopefully this helps identify things for you. I knew the original owners of this boat well. Good luck in your new venture!

Andrew/Bruce,

Thanks. It helps to fill in another hole in my ignorance.
