We have a 2011 RT SC25 that was new to us last year. We've had several issues that we've been working through, however the latest one has me concerned.
Last week, while on an afternoon cruise, after about 1 1/4 hours, the engine alarm sounded along with an error message "check engine" on the Yanmar i5601E gauge. Shortly thereafter engine power was reduced. Everything appeared normal, oil pressure, oil level, temperature, voltage, nothing seemed out of the ordinary. We were able to slowly cruise back.
Two days later the same thing happened. I have the engine manual for the Yanmar 4by2. It lists all the error codes, however the codes are not displayed. None of the marinas in the southern Georgian Bay area of Ontario that I checked have a scanner capable of pulling the codes from the ecm.

I'm sure I'm not the only one that has had this problem. I'm looking for help.

There is a row of buttons along the bottom of i5601E. If you hold down the farthest right button for 5 seconds the code display function is enabled .

I must be doing something wrong. I've given that a try. It opens a window with a large list of errors in plain language. Included in that list is one that says "check engine". However it does not display the P error code to match up with the engine manual that I have. Any further help would be appreciated.

If your firmware is older you won't be able to read the codes. I bought a cheap code reader and a cable for the Yanmar engines to read and clear the codes myself. We had the Check Engine error as well - turned out thar disconnecting the glow plug module fixed our issue after reading postings on this forum. Good luck

Thank you Nuka. I think that is just what I am looking for.
Can you tell me the source of the cable.

It was a JALTEST cable:JDC612A.ODBC2 reader from Temu was about 1/2 the price of the cable. Please check your engine for compatibility

Cannuck,

On our Yanmar 6BY, it’s necessary to have the engine running in order to get the codes. When we had a check engine code go off, I was initially shutting the engine down and then tried sourcing the code. No luck.

Hope this helps.

If you type ‘ Check Engine Alarm ‘ in search you’ll find several people have had an issue where the removal of the glow plug module solved their problem - including myself.

Thanks for all your help.
I've ordered a Jeltest cable in the hopes of identifying the actual source of the error code. The service people around here were of little help. If it turns out to be the glow plug module then I'll unplug it as suggested.
A thumbs up to this forum.

On our 6BY260 Yanmar we had a hickup of the engine revs. We opened the control box on the engines port side to reveal 3 relays, which we took to the local BMW car repair shop. They ordered replacements. While waiting for the order, I plugged the old relays in and went for a cruise. No hickups in engine revs. We now have 3 spare relays on boat.
