Has anyone had occasion to visit with their impeller on a Yanmar powered Cutwater? I'd be most appreciative of any tips.

I am imagining it must be done from above. looks like the belt guard comes off, then the belt... I suspect A mirror would be needed to see what one is doing.

If you have the engine maintenance manual handy it may provide some clues for you. My manual for our Yanmar 4BY2-150 engine is quite detailed about where the impeller housing is and how to replace the impeller itself. It normally will require that the impeller pulley belt be removed carefully and then removing bolts that hold the impeller housing in place and then carefully extracting the old impeller. Be sure to hang onto the bolts so they don't fall into the darkness of the bilge. 😉 Good luck.

I am impressed by the restraint in the tugnuts community.... the reason there are no "how-tos" on cutwater impellers is that it is crazy-easy. I would rightfully have been due some friendly basting for not having properly examined our boat...

I was lulled into a sense of trepidation based on the ranger tug write-ups...

the cutwaters:

Just pulll the engine divider panels from inside the fuel tank/inverter compartment - look-see thar be the engine! remove the belt guard, remove belt, change the impeller, replace belt, replace covers, done. Now, if I could find the miscreant who made a mess of the mounting hardware for the dividing panels karma might be balanced.

Anyone who has done an impeller on a v-drive ski boat will chuckle how easy this impeller is.

the only tip I can add is that a plastic bike tire spoon/lever makes short work of the drive belt.

45 min later new impeller.

Easy Day...

Brag, brag, brag. But don't expect any applause from those of us with impellers cunningly hidden from reach.
