Also known as the "lift pump".

Having just spent a bunch of money on a new lift pump, I have become very pump conscious.

My engine manual says turning on the key runs the pump for 10 seconds as part of the priming process.
My pumps (both new and old) run for exactly 30 seconds.

How long does your pump run?

Mine runs for 30 seconds. The service manual also states 10 seconds. The handouts I received when I attended the BY2 training class at Mack Boring says 30 seconds.
This is controlled by the ECU, not the pump. There is a relay in the ECU housing for the fuel pump power.

Thanks Howard. That relieves my anxiety a lot. Like I said, it was 30 seconds on the button. But since my old pump was failing and had left me stranded twice, I was eager to get it fixed. At first we were suspicious of filters and such, but the second time we had to pull the trigger on a new pump. Not cheap.

The previous owner of my boat also had a failure two years ago. Not yet sure why, but I will be keeping a close eye on fuel quality and treatment.

I just noticed that you are from RI. There are several Rangers up there, as I recall seeing.
I grew up in Barrington, just across the bay.
Thanks again for the info.
