I have not owned a Yanmar before and have little experience working on one. I had worked on a few years ago but that was more involvement in the Mercruiser drives that were powered by the Yanmar's. Most of my experience has been working with Volvo's. When information is needed for a repair on a Volvo. When you call the manufactures hot line for a question you are directed to call a dealer. They will tell you where the closest dealer is and then you call the dealer and the dealer tells you they are 3 weeks out bring it in, or we don't have the parts.
My wife and I just purchased a used Mainship pilot 34 with a pair or 4LHA-STP Yanmar's. I am trying to familiarize myself to theses engines. I called Mack Boring with a couple of questions and because of the business of of the business I had to leave a message for a call back. Right!!! I'll never hear from them!!! 10 minutes later I received a call back. The customer service representative walked me through the complete fuel system answered all my questions. He spent 30 minutes on the phone, then gave me his cell phone number to call him back if I had any other questions about these engines. He asked for my email address. I received electronic up to date, service manual, owners manual and parts manual along with an invite to go to mack boring for a two day training class specifically for the 4LHA engines which Yanmar no longer manufactures that version. In this day and age it is tough to find customer service to a product that is well out of warranty and was not purchased new. I am told that Yanmar has a distributer in Florida that gives the same customer service.
I always liked the Volvo Penta engines but I never thought much of their customer service. I know there are many Ranger and Cutwater owners that have Yanmar power plants in their boats so I thought I would send out a Cudo's to Mack Boring and Yanmar for customer service.
