Many of us use the Mann oil filter for a substitute Yanmar oil filter. Unfortunately with the Mann the O-rings do not match the cap -O-ring plus the small green colored ring is not in the package. Short of occasionally buying a Yanmar filter or buying the highly expensive rings from Yanmar, which can cost as much as buying the filter, has anyone found substitute replacements?

Hi Mike. Hope all is well. Happy Thanksgiving.

I use the Mann filter and truthfully, I have never bothered to change that small green o-ring. In fact, I don't think I can even get it off. Has never caused me a problem. Still get a tight seal around the post.

Mike is referring to the large O ring on the filter cap. There are two small O rings at the end of the filter stem. Yanmar supplies the cap O ring with their filter. The two smaller ones are separate and are ordered individually from a Yanmar dealer. I just bought them today from Niemiec Marine in New Bedford MA.

For my 29 I was able too get the oil filters from BMW as they manufacture my engine. They are a stock item. They were the exact same filter for $25 CDN the Yanmar was $90 CDN for the same filter.

Irish Mist, what's the BMW part number?

On our 2012 R29 Yanmar BY2-260, we’ve used a WIX 57560 and also a Napa Gold 7560 (each about $20). They cross reference depending on the auto parts store and both come with the filter o-rings. They do not come with the filter “dipstick” o-rings.
When we purchased Gemini Gypsy, she came with a MAHLE OX 177/3D Oil Filter. They all are interchangeable. Although I haven’t figured out what the copper washer that comes with them all is for...

Best regards.

I believe the copper ring may be for the oil drain plug. They probably assume that if you are changing the filter you are replacing your oil.

Just so somebody doesn’t start down the wrong path, the oil drain plug referred to above is for the automobile application of this engine. It does not apply to the marine version.

Hi Folks,

Just seeking some validation on the below please... I've spoken with BMW and they can't reconcile back to a WIX # or UPC. But they have given me a BMW part number to what I believe is the oil filter.
It is BMW part # 1142 7788460

Can anyone please validate that this is the same part?

Thank you!

When I run that BMW part number through the WIX cross reference app, I get the WIX 57560

Sorry I missed the question Alice
The number Ranger Love posted is correct.. I paid $21.13 CDN

Folks... a further question please.

I've been to my local Yanmar dealer to get oil, and they didn't have the synthetic oil in stock. I'm wanting to do a change over the next few days and don't want to wait for them to get it in.

They have suggested that I get the oil from a BMW dealer, which I'm happy to pursue... but I wanted to check here as to what synthetic oil most on this forum are going to for a 6BY-260 Yanmar turbo diesel.

Thanks.

I use Shell Rotella T6 Synthetic Diesel Engine Oil available at Can Tire for about $50/5l jug, comes on sale twice a year for $34.

Hi Team,

I've been happily using the BWM oil filter for the last couple of years, but it would seem I need to now tend to the O-ring and plan to buy a Yanmar part. Has anyone got a part number handy for the Yanmar oil filter (that apparently also comes with the O-ring)?

Many thanks in advance.

oil filter165000-69520
oil filter o ring 165000-69440
oil filter o ring 165000*-69460
The above data is from a "Ranger Tugs Parts Acquisition Form" , Yanmar 4BY150 & 180.
