Yellow negative battery cables

I want to add a battery monitor system in my tug and can’t seem to find a supplier in Canada for yellow battery negative cables! Lots of suppliers with black, even Ancor only has re and black. Anyone found a Canadian supplier?

I had the same problem doing the same project. I used black (still accepted under ABYC code as an alternative to yellow) and added yellow shrink tubing at each end for good measure.

It was delivered in the nick of time and worked like a charm for the return of an electric toilet. Easy to work with, a bit pricey, but hey...it's a boat and gives me piece of mind that the boat won't burn down overnight.

I also used black for the same project. I went to a local auto parts store and they made mine to size, specified connectors and shrink wrap between the cable and connector.

Thanks everyone, my local marine store said they can make up the two foot section I need if I buy 35 feet of it. Looks like black is the way to go with some colour on each end.

They have a parts dept. open to the public. I get all the filters for my Yanmar out there. A LOT cheaper than at auto parts stores and they have them in stock. I live off grid and replaced all the cables for my Rolls battery bank from there. 2/00 cables weren't cheap but they had a good selection. Don't remember if they had yellow but I got Black and red. They also have ones with clear insulation so you can see if the copper has been overheated or corrosion has crept through. I used them for the parallel ties on my bank. Not sure if they are open during this lockdown. Hope we can get a decent boating season in this year.

Both Defender and Fisheries will ship to Canada (I had to order a part when cruising in BC years ago). Defender used to sell marine wiring online in 1ft lengths, and still might, haven't checked in a few years.

Shipping north wasn't even that expensive, IIRC. It was cheaper than buying locally in BC at the time.

YMMV but I have had really bad experiences buying electrical / battery cables at automotive stores for marine use (crazy corrosion within 9 months requiring replacement). I suppose if everything is fully waterproofed at either end it might make sense, but there will be water intrusion and corrosion eventually. Marine-grade cables are usually sold with a less easily corroding conductor (I can't remember the details), which is why they are more expensive.

Marine grade wire is tinned as opposed to bare copper.
